Project Information

I was commissioned to design a character for Sakura, a dubstep event organized by RAMPAGE. The client wanted a female character inspired by Japanese anime for promotional use, specifically requesting pink hair and visual nods to both anime and Japanese culture.

The brief called for a shonen-anime aesthetic blended with streetwear, traditional Japanese clothing, and rave culture. With a tight timeline and limited budget, I kept the concepts minimal yet clear, maintaining close collaboration throughout.

I began by researching Japanese fashion and developed a few headshot options along with two rough concepts; one focused on streetwear, the other blending traditional elements with anime aesthetics. After reviewing them, the client preferred a ’cute anime schoolgirl’ look mixed with streetstyle over traditional accuracy, so I refined the design accordingly.

I presented the updated design with two color options and hairstyle variations, allowing the client to choose based on their vision. After they made their choice and shared a few final preferences, I created a fully rendered front view and a flat-colored back view to provide a clear design reference.

The client was thrilled with the final result and felt it perfectly captured the theme and energy of the Sakura event.
